Daily Skin Care Routine
My skin is crazy lately
Today, I want to talk about my daily skin care routine. My skin has been on the fritz lately, I’m having serious issues with dry skin, breakouts, and the worst thing ever… clogged pores. Gross, I know! My daily skincare routine has been the same for several years and was working well for me. So, I’m not sure what has my skin spazzing out, but I’ve got to get to the bottom of this. I’m starting to look like a teenager with acne, I didn’t have this many issues with my skin in high school.
Purity Cleanser
Well, I fell in love with Jaclyn Hill’s YouTube channel years ago and in one of her skin care routine tutorials she recommended the Philosophy Purity Made Simple One-Step Facial Cleanser. (I just looked up the tutorial it was posted January of 2014, Favorite Skincare products of 2013.) Jaclyn said that it worked really well for people with sensitive skin, so I did what any other Jaclyn Hill addict would do, I went straight to Sephora and picked some up. Naturally, I loved it and was so excited I finally found a cleanser that was gentle enough not to upset my sensitive skin and moisturizing enough not to dry out my already overly dry skin. I was thrilled to have finally found a product that worked for me, and it made me think that Jaclyn was even more of a genius than I already thought, HAHA!
Clarisonic
In the Jaclyn Hill favorite’s of 2013 tutorial she also talks about the Clarisonic, so of course I wanted this too. I went in and looked at the price, and I was like hold up wait a minute Momma can’t just afford this on a whim. I saved up and bought this as my Mother’s Day present in 2014, I’m glad I did, it’s awesome! I don’t think the Clarisonic is meant to be used daily, it’s too much on my sensitive skin. I only use the Clarisonic on days I wear a full face of makeup, so maybe a few days a week. I want to ensure that my makeup is thoroughly removed to prevent future breakouts. After using the Clarisonic my skin feels so clean! I would recommend the Clarisonic to people with all skin types, if you are on the oilier side you could probably use the Clarisonic daily.
Garnier Micellar Water
Garnier Micellar Water is life!! I have been using this for around 2 years now and I love it, it has changed my life. Before, I used makeup remover wipes and even the sensitive version would set my face on fire! Micellar Water is so gentle on my skin and it doesn’t dry out my face or irritate my eyes when I’m taking off my mascara. If you have not already tried Micellar Water go out today and get you some, I promise you will thank me for it later, you can find it anywhere CVS, Wal-Mart, Target, Ulta, etc.
Neutrogena Hyrdo Boost Water Gel
When Neutrogena came out with Hyrdo Boost Water Gel for Extra-Dry Skin, I couldn’t wait to try it! When I say my skin is dry… I’m talking like crocodile thirsty! I would apply my makeup and it would look so amazing, but within an hour I would notice patchy spots on my face where the foundation settled into the dry spots. Ugh this was soo.. irritating! Using the Neutrogena Hydro Boost my skin looked so much healthier, this moisturizer literally gave my skin life. I finally started to feel confident about how my face looked with and without makeup on.
Skin Currently
My skin has been acting crazy the past few months, with dry skin, breakouts, and clogged pores. I’m not sure what’s going on but I’m completely over it. I don’t know if it’s just the weather causing extra dryness, increased gym time causing breakouts and clogged pores, or if my skin is just rebelling against my normal routine and it’s time to change things up. Whatever it is, I’m going to get to the bottom of it. I’m not a girl who wears makeup every day, it’s just not me. I’m always on the go and normally only have on mascara and chap stick. Yes, I live for makeup and probably have more makeup than necessary, but seriously what girl doesn’t? That being said I want my skin to look flawless especially on the days I’m not glammed up. This past weekend I went to Ulta and TJ Maxx, I stocked up on all kinds of products to try. I’m not going to introduce all kinds of things at once, but I will try a new product for a week of two and document what changes I see, if any. I will write a review on everything I try, though it will probably be a little while down the road, because I need time to try them all.
*Please note, I love every one of the products that are a part of my daily skincare routine. I plan to continue using these products, in addition to the new products I purchased, to see if I notice any visible improvements to my skin. Stay tuned! 🙂
Skincare Products
If you’re planning to purchase any of the products I have discussed in this post I recommend buying the travel size bottles. The travel size bottles are way cheaper than the full size, you can get the Purity at Ulta for $11. The Garnier Micellar Water comes in a travel size everywhere and is around $4. I don’t believe they have a travel size of the Neutrogena Hydro Boost, but they do offer a Hyrdro Boost mask for a few dollars and it’s just a richer version of the moisturizer, I recommend that first to see how you like it.
