January
Exhausted from the rush of the Holidays? I am too! How about a night in? Put on some warm socks, turn on some music, grab some wine, and cook something yummy together. It could be just me, but there’s nothing more attractive than a man that helps in the kitchen. Blake is always willing to help and with a little instruction he is the perfect sous chef. End the night with your favorite feel good comedy cozied up on the couch. My favorite rom-com is The Proposal, it’s hilarious and has a happy ending. My favorite wine right now is Mia Bella Sprakling Moscato-Rose I get it locally at H-E-B, if that’s unavailable Raspberry Sparkletini by Verdi is a great and cheap alternative.
February
February is the month of love, so with that in mind a Romantic Weekend Getaway is my suggestion. I have a spot in mind, Broken Bow, OK, it’s not too far of a drive, it has gorgeous mountain views, and it’s secluded away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Spend the weekend exploring, relaxing, and reconnecting.
March
Get active, get your blood pumping it just makes you feel good. Plus, studies show couples who sweat together, stay together. I have always wanted to go biking on the Katy Trail so this will be the perfect outdoor date, the weather is perfect in March not too cold and not too hot. After getting your workout in, stop in and re-charge with some food and ice cold beer at the Katy Trail Ice House.
April
“April Showers, bring May Flowers” or so the saying goes. Catching a movie is good in any weather, and I have been dying to go to the new Alamo Draft House. Nothing better than watching a movie while enjoying a delicious meal served directly to your seat. For my beer lovers out there, Alamo Draft House has a selection of craft beers some from local microbreweries.
May
By May in Texas it’s already super-hot, a river trip is just what the doctor ordered. My childhood favorite destination is the Frio River, with it’s beautiful clear water, gorgeous rock formations, and cool refreshing water it’s the perfect way to unwind and disconnect from the busyness of everyday life. Spend the weekend swimming, floating, hiking, horseback riding, or just sitting under the stars and enjoying God’s creation.
June
Try a new restaurant with your favorite guy, new restaurants pop up every day so you will never run out of new places to try. I have been dying to go to Don’t Tell Supper Club featured in D Magazine, it’s not only a restaurant, after 11PM it turns into a nightclub with burlesque style performers. This is sure to be an unforgettable experience.
July
Pack a picnic basket with champagne, finger foods, and catch one of the local firework shows. Find a quiet spot, lay out a blanket, and enjoy the fireworks while you sip some champagne with your main squeeze.
August
Who doesn’t love a little friendly competition? Host a game night, order some pizza, pick up your favorite beer, invite a few friends over, and have each couple bring their favorite game. This is a simple yet fun way to enjoy each other’s company.
September
Head out to Fort Worth and spend the evening in the Stockyards. Start the night with Mexican Food at Joe T. Garcia’s, hangout on the patio, sip some margaritas, and enjoy some fajitas before getting the evening started. After you’ve had your fill, it’s time to get the party started. Catch a live band at Billy Bob’s, stop in Sam’s Saloon for a little karaoke, and end the night busting a move at The Basement. The Basement is by far my favorite bar in the stockyards, it’s lively and always has the best music playing. They begin the night playing exactly what you would expect to find in the Stockyards, Texas 2-Steppin’ music. Around midnight is when the fun starts, the DJ livens up the crowd with some booty shaking tunes, sure to get everyone out on the dance floor.
October
Plan a day at the State Fair of Texas, it’s kind of a ritual in Texas. With outlandish foods, carnival games, live music, and exhibits you are sure to find something you both enjoy. Spend the day acting like kids carefree, eating corn dogs, cotton candy, and playing games. The fair is one of the largest in the nation, you could go everyday and still not see everything it has to offer.
November
Catch a football game, Blake, and I both love football, just thinking about football season being over makes me sad. The Dallas Cowboys are my boys and just saying they are America’s team! Blake roots for the New Orleans Saints…. it’s okay I still love him though, HAHA! It just so happens the Cowboys and Saints are going head to head in 2018 going to this game will be epic, especially when we see who comes out on top.
December
Go see Christmas Lights, there are tons of places around DFW, Vitruvian Lights in Addison, Prairie Lights in Grand Prairie, Christmas in the Square in Frisco, Gift of Lights in Fort Worth, but the place I really want to go is the Riverwalk in San Antonio. Blake and I had a trip planned to go a few weeks ago, but they got snow. Yes, snow in South Texas! How crazy is that?
So, if you do everything on the list or only one thing on the list, please leave your feedback and let me know how it was. What were the pros, cons and would you do it again? What is the best date you’ve ever been on, where was it, what did you do? Tell me your date ideas! I’m going to convince Blake to do as many of these as possible and I will let you know each one we check off and how it was!
